I could only watch the first-half and thought Villa were going to cause an upset after 2 well-taken goals, but of course Arsenal weren’t going to lie down and concede on their own turf. Giving away 2 penalties though was the ‘killer-blow’.
I heard it through the grape vine (facebook) that Shay was on Sky Sports last night. How did he do? Any comments folks?
“It was a long six-weeks”, was what Shay could think of when asked after his return to the Premiership. He also thanked the medical staff for putting up with him as he says he’s not a very ‘good patient’.
Welcome back Shay. Well done as well to Guzan in goals for 7 games and didn’t seem to put a foot wrong.
Shay played first-class against Everton at the weekend and you could argue that he won them the point with some top-stops especially stopping an OG as well.
Just wanted to officially say how much we and Shay will miss having Gary Speedo (Speedo) around. I can’t get my head around it and perhaps I never will. Our hearts go out to his wife Louise and two sons.
To say Gary Speed’s death is a tragedy would be an understatement. To say it affects Shay is also an understatement. To say that Gary and Shay were together during their Newcastle days is also not the whole story. They have had a vibrant (more…)
It will give Aston Villa some confidence that their unbeaten run continued against Wigan on Saturday. Coming up with three points instead of just the one though will give them a boast before the trial of Man City on the 15th of October. Man City are no a flyer in the Premiership but like any season, someone will take points off them. Let’s hope Aston Villa can take something from the game. I’m sure Shay won’t want to come away empty handed.
Shay is excited at the arrival of Terry Gennoe – revealing he relishes training each day with the “bubbly” goalkeeping coach. Shay spent three years at Blackburn and six years at Newcastle with Gennoe and rates the 58-year-old very highly because of his engaging sessions. He also (more…)
Shay earned the ‘Lazarus’ nickname from Steve Harper at Newcastle, as it seemed no matter how badly injured Shay was, he would always somehow creep off the treatment table for the next game, much to Steve’s frustration. It seems that Lazarus lives on at Aston Villa, with Shay almost certain to start against Blackburn Rovers for his home debut in an Aston Villa shirt.
“I was genuinely excited, I left home at 16 and even before I left home I’d been playing football all my life. I was pretty regular at most clubs I’d been at, so it was a bit strange and frustrating last year. But it’s great to be at Villa and feel part of the group.”
When asked if he considers himself the best keeper in the league bar Joe Hart, he quipped: “Who said that, Mancini?”
The fact is, he may still be.
