It is from a German point of view a dream to put in a 4:1 scoreline against any team in any competition, but to do so against England, your arch rivals is something that nobody on German soil could’ve dreamt of. Even Angela Merkel (Germany’s leading lady) came out from G8 to make a “Congratulations and keep it going” speech to the press. I said to my wife after the game “It’s more than just football”. There were convoys of cars going around our town for hours after the game here in Germany, wondering how we put 4 goals past an English defence. (more…)
Lots will be written and talked about between now and Sunday. What a game. I kind of hoped for a England / Germany final, but that of course was never to be in the way the groups were laid out. Pity. It could’ve gotten 1966 out of the system once and for all.
