Shay’s Dad sees his potential way early on… according to Kenny Dalglish

Kenny Dalglish: “I remember speaking to his dad, who told me he’d be a top-class goalkeeper. We felt he had a chance of achieving that,” Dalglish said.
“His dad must have been an even better judge than us, because he was exactly right. He saw Shay’s potential earlier than we did. At that point we only thought he had a chance, his dad knew he’d make it and told us so. ”Shay was absolutely brilliant for Newcastle for a long, long time,” “He was brilliant when I was there and he was brilliant long after I’d gone. He’s a legend at Newcastle. I don’t think any manager could ever complain about his effort or performances. He’s honest, genuine and straightforward. He’s lively around the training ground too, he loves joining in the banter.”

Gary Speed gone

Just wanted to officially say how much we and Shay will miss having Gary Speedo (Speedo) around. I can’t get my head around it and perhaps I never will. Our hearts go out to his wife Louise and two sons.

Tragic loss of a friend

Terry Gennoe back working with Shay!

Shay is excited at the arrival of Terry Gennoe – revealing he relishes training each day with the “bubbly” goalkeeping coach. Shay spent three years at Blackburn and six years at Newcastle with Gennoe and rates the 58-year-old very highly because of his engaging sessions. He also (more…)

Shay looking to start against Blackburn … “Lazarus live on!” :-)

Shay earned the ‘Lazarus’ nickname from Steve Harper at Newcastle, as it seemed no matter how badly injured Shay was, he would always somehow creep off the treatment table for the next game, much to Steve’s frustration. It seems that Lazarus lives on at Aston Villa, with Shay almost certain to start against Blackburn Rovers for his home debut in an Aston Villa shirt.
