SHOULD HAVE BEEN THREE POINTS

It must have been hard to accept a share of the points from Saturdays game Shay, after leading twice, don't you think?

Shay: Yeah, a bit frustrating. At half-time we would have taken the point. We had a man sent off, so we definately would have taken it, had someone come into the dressing room and offered it to us. The way the game panned out, we could have won it. We were leading twice, and when they got a man sent off it evened things up a lot too. It was heartbreaking to lose the game with a penalty at the end though.

You had some vital saves to make. How did you feel about your game?

Shay: Yeah, I felt it went really well. I didn't have much chance with the goals. I'm happy enough how my form has been so far this season. I just hope the club gets it's form going and gets the right results starting on Saturday. We desperately want our first three points, and when we do I think it'll take a lot of pressure off and we'll be rolling after that.

Did you think it was a dirty game, or was the amount of yellow and red cards a bit too much?

Shay: No, I didn't really think it was. The ref booked folks early on to set a precedence, probably to stamp down and show this isn't acceptablem, but I didn't think it was a dirty game at all.

Alan Shearer came up with the goods again, scoring two vital goals from penalties. Who do you think should replace Alan now that he's planning only one more season after this one as a player?

Shay: I think I could do a good job myself upfront if the gaffer would let me, but I don't think he's up for me trying that option. :::smile and laugh from Shay:::. Alan should keep going. Who knows Alan might play another year after his current contract runs up in 2005. He's joint top scorer in the league at the moment so I don't think it's the time to talk about it. He's flying and we hope he sticks around for a long time to come.

Bolton at home on Saturday. How are you feeling about it? Is your knee going to be ok?

Shay: I'll be ok for the game. It's doesn't hamper my movement, it's just when I land on it there's a little bit of discomfort. Of course it's difficult being a goalkeeper trying not landing on it. It'll probably swell up a bit after the game on Saturday but it should be fine.

What's your thoughts of Bolton as a team?

They beat Middlesborough last week and they're definatley finding their feet in the Premiership. They've got some quality players and they won't be coming to St. James just to make up the numbers. They'll be digging in to get a result. But we're obviously wanting to get our first three points. I really believe that when we get our first victory we'll be off and running.

We at Shay-Given.com want to wish you Shay and the team all the best for Bolton on Saturday. Here's to the first three points folks.
