Shay gets the chance to play in the new stadium with Ireland and play against a top team in Argentina, saying “When we play Argentina, it’s always a special game and this one should be no different. They were one of my favourites for the World Cup and unlucky not to go further in the tournament. It’s a shame that Diego (Maradona) won’t be there to manage them.”
“I’m really looking forward to playing in the new stadium. Because I missed the friendlies in May, I haven’t even visited the stadium yet. I have some special memories of the old Lansdowne Road stadium and I’m glad to be going back there. I’m sure it will be big help to the team. No disrespect to Croke Park, but it didn’t seem the same (as Lansdowne). That might have been because the pitch was wider and the stands were further back but I think the atmosphere was sometimes lost.”
