Shay says of the duel: “We both have international careers to think of as well as the club. With Ireland we have some big Euro qualifiers coming up and Joe has as well. Joe is good enough to play in any first team in the Premier League this season. At 34, you have only got a few years left playing so you want to be in the side every week – you don’t want to be sitting on the bench.”
