It’s common knowledge at Newcastle Utd. that Shay had to fend off Steve Harper for almost the entire time he was at Newcastle and having competition seems to give Shay even more fight than normal. Now having Joe Hart impress in his first season on loan to Birmingham, it will be interesting to see who Mr. Manchini gives the nod too. He’s quoted as saying: “Joe Hart will be England’s first-choice keeper for the next 10 years. But I don’t know if he will be my first choice. It depends. I will pick the players who deserve to play. I want 22, 23 strong players who are willing every day to work with the squad.”
One possibility is using one of his keepers for the League and another for Cup competitions at home and in Europe in a bid to keep both happy. Shay says: “The shoulder is better than ever. I feel sharp and full of optimism for the season ahead.”
If you can somehow keep Shay and Joe Hart happy during the season, it will be a great pairing for the season ahead.
