I watched the highlights of the 3 goals against Arsenal last night, and I thought “Wow, Man City really powered in 3 great goals”. That should give the whole team lots of confidence for the home game to Chelsea (league leaders) on Saturday. It seems thatArsene Wenger went with his ‘usual’ policy of playing his younger more inexperienced players. He admitted afterwards that they were overpowered by Man City’s attackers and if you see the goals, you can fully appreciate what he’s talking about:
Goal 1: Tevez: Winds the play from the Arsenal defender out on the left-wing, does a quick one-two and off he goes on a huge run past 3 Arsenal defenders using dummies like it’s the Christmas sales… and then just when you think he’s got nothing left to give in terms of a shot on goal, fires a rifled shot into the top right-hand corner, giving the Arsenal keeper no chance.
Goal 2: Wright-Phillips: SWP goes on a beautiful run down the right, cuts in quick and dirty and gets a HUGE shot off, where you think, wow, he can really power them. He gives you the impression that he’s not just a very fast and tricky winger, but someone whose going to weigh in this year with loads of goals.
Goal 3: Weiss: This goal was created by a class piece of trickery and work from Craig Bellamy bursting through 2 Arsenal defenders at the speed of a freight train on drugs. You almost think he’s going to do a Tevez goal and pull right again for a shot, but he puts the ball across to an onrushing Weiss who hammers it home with aplomb.
If as a neutral watching that performance, you have to say it’s game on on Saturday against Chelsea, in what is Man City’s perhaps biggest test to date. But I think they will more than rise to the occasion and take points off the league leaders.
What do you reckon?
