Shay plays PROUDLY on for Ireland
posted @ 11:47 in [ Newcastle Utd ]

Shay and Kevin Kilbane are both very close to their 100th cap for Ireland and Shay is as proud as the first day he made his début against Russia.

“I remember when Steve Staunton got his 100th cap … it was out at the World Cup and he was adamant that it was important to concentrate on the game. The same will go for myself and Kevin when, hopefully, we will be in the same boat. There are massive points at stake.

“Deep down, though, it will be a special moment for both of us. When I supported the Irish team as a kid, I used to go to the hotel and get the players’ autographs. That was special enough for me. If someone had said you’ll play for your country one day … I’m from Lifford, Donegal, you’d think no chance. I’d never have imagined making 100 caps.”
