Shay is reminded of his pre-season with Blackburn Rovers many seasons ago referring in response perhaps to the attention been given from the Media on the poor pre-season results from Man City commenting:
“I was at Blackburn as a player and I don’t think they won a game pre-season the year that they went on to win the Premier League. Pre-season is all about getting players games. In the back of everyone’s mind it is all about Blackburn in a couple of weeks and hopefully we will have everyone fit and firing then.” Source. MCFC
I think anyone in Management particulary would fully agree with that with Harry Redknapp in particular pointing out that he think Man City could very well be challenging for the title even this year saying:
“Don’t write them off, they can do it,”
”If they bring in a couple of players they could be right up there. They already have players like Shaun Wright-Phillips and Stephen Ireland who are great players.”
”If he (Hughes) gets the right players they could be real title contenders. If they make a couple of good players in the right areas then who knows.”
”Look at their strike force, they have players like Tevez, Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy,”
”You wouldn’t swap that for too many other strikeforces in the league.”
He also drew similarities between Man City and Blackburn Rovers:
“Chelsea did it and so did Blackburn when they brought in players like (Chris) Sutton, (Alan) Shearer and (Tim Flowers). They built a team to win the championship.”
Lets hope that City can win the Championship, it sure would be “Welcome to Manchester” and Shay would be “badly excited” as the man says. There’d be a party for 2 weeks!
