“No matter which country you go to, you don’t have many players like Shay,” said Pav, who himself racked up nearly 200 appearances for the Toon. Players like Shay only come along every 15 or 20 years so it’s a fantastic achievement if he does break the record. He really will deserve it and I hope it happens.”
Pav, who watches his former club whenever possible back home in the Czech Republic, feels that Shay is now back to his best having been United’s star performer so far this season.
“I’ve seen quite a few Newcastle games and it looks like Shay is back playing at his standard again. It’s good because he is fit and doesn’t have any injury problems. The games I have seen he has been excellent and long may that continue.”
