The irish manager’s comments about Shay being good enough for any top Serie-A side somehow got up Joe Kinnear’s nose a bit commenting: “I think it’s disrespectful. Shay will be here for three years. What on earth Trapattoni was doing saying that I don’t know. Maybe he wanted to get on the right side of Shay.”
I think though in fairness to Trapattoni, he just wants to pay Shay and even Newcastle Utd. a compliment revealing how high he actually rates Shay Given.
We at the website think it’s great when other football brains compare Shay with Buffon.
Why not. If you talk though to Newcastle fans, they already rate Shay for years as a world class goalkeeper that he is, but is he leaving Newcastle in January? NO CHANCE.
The trouble with top-goalkeepers is … they cost too much money to buy! That should be some comfort to anybody out there who thinks Shay might be bought by another team.
It’s VERY VERY rare that BIG bucks are paid out for goalkeepers. It seems that chairmen reluctantly sign big checks for good keepers but rather bust the bank for a striker.
It’s an unwritten rule that clubs rarely break and we don’t see the Italians doing it either.
Shay loves life at Newcastle Utd., always has and showed his loyalty to the club signing a ’5-year contract’. He wants the club to progress to the top 5 in England where he feels it belongs year in, year out.
Let’s in my opinion not get upset too much with Mr. Trapattoni but rather say “Thanks for complimenting us on having one of the best keepers in England and therefore in the world of football.” Rock on Shay boy!
