Newcastle’s very own website asks after every game who they thought was the man of the match in the last game. Well, apparently Shay is leading the tables on average which goes to show that he’s back to his best. More on NUFC.co.uk

A tough game ended even tougher when Newcastle didn’t receive any share of the points at the Stadium of Light. It’s taken a loooooooooooog time for Sunderland to get one over on Newcastle so they’ll obviously and rightly so enjoy it but it more worryingly leaves Newcastle with NO points and second from bottom. You kind of think ‘Can this be happening?’. Nicky Butt says we’re in a relegation scrap, but I think we’ll get the results soon to catapult us up the league table. Worried? Yes, but, there’s a looooooooooog way to go yet.
They’ll be a lot of ‘stand up’ or ‘shirts off’ or ‘shoes off’ songs going this weekend when both sets of fans meet each other at the stadium of light. It’s one of the (more…)
Shay’s feelings on the penalty and sending off:
“I felt it wasn’t a penalty and it definitely wasn’t a sending off. My only concern was should I pick the ball up or kick it away because I thought it was a backpass because he’s clearly got the ball. For him to give a penalty and a red card I was amazed (more…)

Shay had to play his part in holding Cyprus at bay. Ireland getting an early goal didn’t do too much for the nerves at the end where they were frantically holding on for dear life, depending on Shay at the death to show his class and keep Ireland in clean sheets and Trappatoni very happy. Three points was the goal and I’m sure everyone went home happy it was ‘mission accomplished’. Well done Ireland, well done Shay!!
Shay on Cyprus:
“There not minnows any more. They’re quick on the break and on counter-attack they’re very very dangerous. The two strikers they have, have got a wealth of European experience, both in Champions League and obviously for Cyprus as well. (more…)
Shay on Joe Kinnear: “Joe can be judged on the Everton game – and we got a point. It’s a turbulent time at the club and Joe is only in for a couple of months, so he wants (more…)
Shay and Damien Duff are preparing for their clash with Cyprus next wednesday with a full-house expected in Ireland at Croke Park. I still remember when Shay led Ireland with the captains armband in front of some 70,000 supporters and it sent the hairs on his neck standing. Keep tuned for more updates as we hear them:
Wed 15.10.08 Cyprus Croke Park, Dublin: Ireland v. Cyprus
If anyone only saw the first half, you’d have thought, “Okay, Everton will come out in the second-half and try and destroy Newcastle within 20 minutes … but Newcastle delivered a sucker blow to Everton through Stephen Taylor before half-time and another one on the 47th minute through Damien Duff.
