Goakkeeping coach Paul Barron reckons Shay’s up for another penalty save as Shay has had three penalties against him in three games in a row … against Bolton Wanderers, Arsenal and Hull City. (more…)

Newcastle and Shay get a boost against West Ham
posted @ 11:33 in [ Newcastle Utd ]

With all the doom and gloom around Newcastle these days, it’s nice to report that WEST Ham will be without star striker Dean Ashton for Saturday’s clash with Newcastle. That won’t make the task much easier but it might mean that West Ham have less fire-power against Shay than they normally would have. Let’s go for all three points guys! :-)

Let’s not forget West Ham away
posted @ 14:27 in [ Newcastle Utd ]

It seems that there’s more ‘off-field’ talk about Newcastle than ‘on-field’ which is understandable given the current situation the club is in. But knowing Shay, he will be focussing his energy and talent on the upcoming three points fight with West Ham on Saturday. What do you think about it? Can Newcastle settle down and pull off the three points? Are you optimistic or pessimistic about it all? :-)

Shay sends Team GIVEN to run instead!!!
posted @ 12:18 in [ Newcastle Utd ]

Team Given began 4 years ago when Shay (who works with MacMillan Cancer Support in the North East – mainly because of Mum Agnes’ death from cancer in 1981) decided that since he wasn’t allowed to run the Great North Run (GNR) by his football club, Newcastle United, instead volunteered his brothers and sisters to do it for him. Since then the team has evolved is now constituted by immediate family, cousins, partners and friends. Read more here

After reading the statement from Mike Ashley on Newcastle’s Website, it seems Newcastle now have to wait and see if there is such a multi-billionaire interested in Newcastle Utd.

Shay shows his class to keep Ireland in points
posted @ 09:48 in [ Newcastle Utd ]

Trappatoni said: “When you come away it’s important not to lose. All of the performances were good but Shay Given saved us. He had a big save after the ball had hit off another player but we didn’t have other difficult situations.” (more…)

Shay and Serie A?
posted @ 11:06 in [ Newcastle Utd -Republic of Ireland ]

I don’t think this is likely to happen, but Giovanni Trappatoni (Ireland’s manager) says: “I would recommend Italian clubs to buy Shay Given from Newcastle. He resembles Gianluigi Buffon, and I am not exaggerating when I say this. He is a born goalkeeper, and there is a vacancy for players like this in Serie A.”

Shay’s thoughts about the Georgia win
posted @ 11:14 in [ Republic of Ireland ]

“I’m delighted we won the game, though a bit annoyed that they scored a goal and we’re lucky that it didn’t cost us some points. In the past, late goals cost us points which stopped us from qualifying, so it’s good that we came away with the win.
